Commenced Public work through students movement. Member of University College Union and the secretary of the Zoology Association in 1964- 65. Convener of Nedumangad Block Youth Congress Committee in 1965. President , Kerala Students Union , Thiruvananthapuram District Committee - 1966. President, District Youth Congress Committee -1967. General Secretary, District Congress Committee, 1969-72. President-District Congress Committee-1972-80. KPCC General Secretary-1980. KPCC -S  Convenor-1981. KPCC -S General Secretary- 1982-85.  Member Congress - S Working Committee -1985 -95. Since 1997 Chairman, Kerala Vikas Party , a Constituent Party in N D A.

Contested elections to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1978, 80,82,87 and 1991 from Thiruvananthapuram East Constituency, in 2001 from Thiruvananthapuram North. Elected in 1982 and 1987.

Minister for Transport in the  E.K Nayanar Ministry-1987 - 1991; was Member of the Public Undertakings Committee of the Assembly and of the Library Committee of the Legislature . Acted as Chairman of the Subject Committee V.

Was INTUC leader in 1970's,  was office bearer of the Unions in the Government Press, Kerala Fisheries Corporation, Sree Rama Vilasom  Press ( Malayalaranjyam Group), India Tourism Development Corporation, Kovalam etc

Associated with various Co-operative Societies; was Director, Nedumangad Taluk Co-operative Marketing and Processing Society; was Director Kerala State Co-operative Marketing Federation, Kochi for many years; was President of Thiruvananthapuram Taxi Drivers Co-operative Society; was President, Sree Rama Vilasom Press Employees Co-operative Society; was Director, Kerala goods Transport Workers Co-operative Society. 

Was Member of the Kerala State Electricity Board; was Vice Chairman of the Kerala State Financial Enterprises Ltd, Thrissur

Has taken deep interest in Sports , Literature and Cultural activities; was a member in the Editorial Board of 'KALASALA';  KSU's Official Publication in 1960's. Was Founder President of the Sameeksha Film Society , Nedumangad. Editor and owner of  ANUSMARANAM,  a monthly Magazine of uniqueness, Published during 1993-95.  Was Patron of the Nedumangad Union Volley Ball Club  and later patron of Kalady Volley Ball Club for many years. Patron, Vikara Vichara Vedi;  Patron, Nedumangad Mutharamman Coil Committee. As a columnist and writer he contributes articles to the periodicals occasionally.
